Eugene “Trout” Scanlan, 73, of Naples, Florida, passed away on April 9, 2025. Gene was born in Dublin, Ireland to Noel Gray on July 20, 1951. He was adopted by Emmett & Barry (O’Neill) Scanlan as a toddler. He attended high school in Kansas City, Missouri.
He married the love of his life, Vicki Traxler on June 21, 1997, in Naples. He graduated from Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a man of many talents and an entrepreneur who pursued many endeavors through the years. He worked in advertising, real estate, marketing, sales and management. He achieved “Master Dealer” status in the automotive sales business. His love for cars led to the establishment of American Legacy Motors, specializing in “Streetrods, Kustoms & Classics.” He worked in radio, even with a stint as a radio DJ. He was the founder, president and creative director of Creative ARM, Inc advertising agency.
He served on the City of Naples planning advisory board and was a graduate of Leadership Collier and Institute. He was a voracious reader, who was actively engaged in political discourse & discussion. He was an avid boater and fisherman.
Gene is preceded in death by his biological and adoptive parents, and his adoptive brother, Noël Scanlan. Gene is survived by his wife Vicki, daughter Kelly Scanlan (Drew) Toth, and grandson Tristan Toth.
Gene had a grand presence in life and leaves a grand void. Following cremation, a private scattering of ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate).
