Dora E. Carlson, 95, passed away on July 2, 2017, in Coral Gables Florida. Dora was born in Hibbing Minnesota on June 18, 1922, to Vinancio and Aida Bugliosi. She graduated from Hibbing High School, where she enjoyed being the lead drum majorette, and later from Hibbing Junior College. In 1943 she married Lennart H. Carlson. After Lennart’s service in the Army Air Corp., they lived in Minneapolis while Lennart finished college at the University of Minnesota. They returned to Hibbing where Lennart worked for the M. A. Hanna Company.
Dora’s greatest satisfaction and joy came from raising her children, and in return they loved her dearly. Her sons, Alan and Curtis, were born in Hibbing in 1945 and 1952. She was very proud of the fact that each son obtained engineering and law degrees and had successful lives and children. She was also very proud of her Brother, Vincent Bugliosi, a famous lawyer who prosecuted Charles Manson, as well as an extremely gifted writer who wrote “Helter Skelter,” and other important books.
Dora was a Grand Master Bridge player. She started playing in Hibbing and played throughout her life.
In 1954, Lennart was made Administrative Supervisor of Hanna’s nickel operation in Oregon, and Dora and her family moved to Myrtle Creek, Oregon where they thoroughly enjoyed life in the 1950’s.
In 1961 Dora and the family moved to Rocky River, Ohio, when Lennart was promoted to the Hanna corporate office in Cleveland. Lennart was promoted several times and ultimately retired as a Senior Vice President, and Dora continued to be very active in the Cleveland bridge community.
Dora and Lennart maintained homes in both Rocky River and Naples, Florida for a number of years and they eventually lived year-round in Naples. Lennart died in Naples in 2008 at age 87, and Dora continued to live independently in Naples. In 2016 Dora moved to Coral Gables, Fl. where she resided at The Palace until her death.
Dora was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Marino, Anthony, and Vincent Bugliosi and her sister Adeline Kotonias all of Los Angeles, California.
She is survived by her sons, Alan (Susan) Carlson of Wayzata, Mn. and Curtis (Julie) Carlson of Coconut Gove, Fl. and six Grandchildren, David, Evan, Curtis, Chase, Caroline and Caleb Carlson. Condolences may be left online at www.HodgesNaplesMG.com.
