Derrick Thompson, 63, went home to be with Jesus on July 19, 2017. He was living with his wife Merina at his mother Carolyn Thompson's home in Copeland, FL. Derrick was raised in Everglades and graduated from Everglades High School.
In 1974 he was in a near fatal car accident but made a remarkable recovery after years of surgeries and a strong will to live. Though he had numerous complications he strived to live a productive life. He had a successful business in Naples called Gator Stripes for quite a few years.
Derrick is survived by his Canadian wife Merina, married for 17 years; mother Carolyn Thompson and sister Jenny Thompson Houston (Loren "Bud") of Middlefield, Ohio and their children Jason, Ashlee and Tray and four grandsons.
Derrick was predeceased by his father Lamar Thompson, brothers Gary Sr. and Kim.
His brother Gary had two children Gary Jr. and Trisia with nine children between them. His brother Kim had one daughter Tiffany.
Funeral and burial services will be Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens 525 - 111 Ave NE, Naples FL 34108. Viewing at 10:00 and service at 11:00am.
