Sonnenberg, Charles Frederick, 79 of Naples, FL and Conneaut Lake, PA on August 5, 2011. He graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1953 with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1953. While at Carnegie Tech he served as Editor-in-chief of the school paper, the Tartan and was the distinguished recipient of the four year Westinghouse Electrical Engineering Scholarship. He was also president of his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Delta Skull, Pi Delta Epsilon and Eta Kappa Nu . He later received a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He had 7 patents in the area of high voltage electrical transmission with Westinghouse Electric. At Carnegie Mellon University, he went on to receive master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. He proceeded to manage factories in East Pittsburgh, and Monroeville, PA and Elmira, NY. He worked abroad in Brazil and Tokyo Japan. While in Tokyo, he managed quality control for Mitsubishi in the manufacture of cathode ray tubes. In retirement he was President of two art museums, the Naples von Liebig Art Center and the Coral Springs Museum in Coral Springs, Fl. He was President of the Morningshores Homeowners Association in Conneaut Lake, PA
He is survived by Joan Bell Brechin Sonnenberg, his loving wife of 58 years. Devoted Father of William Robert Sonnenberg, M.D., Susan Ann Sonnenberg, R.N., B.S.N., Robert Thomas Sonnenberg, Esq. and the late James Frederick Sonnenberg. He is also survived by his Brother, William Roberts Sonnenberg and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 8, 2011 from 11:00am until 1:00pm immediately followed by a celebration of His life at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave. North, Naples, FL 34108. Those desiring may make memorial contributions in his name to The von Liebig Center, 585 Park St., Naples, FL 34102.
