Candida (Candy) Gonzalez was born on October 18, 1936 in Jobabo Cuba to Miguel and Juana Rodriguez, the youngest of 6 children. Candida father died when she was just a baby so her mother Juana raised all 6 children on her own. The siblings took great care of each other, loving and protecting each other throughout their lives. It is difficult to find six siblings that shared a stronger bond. Concepcion, Alberto, Miguel, Victor and Josefa all preceded her in death and certainly welcomed her with great love when she went back Home to be with God and her family.
Candida and her husband Salvador married October 1960. Throughout the years they loved, respected and cared for each other deeply. In the last few years of Candida's life, Salvador was a dedicated and steadfast support to her. He will miss their coffee at the farm with the gallinas and so many other cherished times.
Candida and Salvador immigrated to the United States in 1968. Deeply grateful and humble for the gift of freedom and opportunity this country offered after enduring the communist revolution. They worked tirelessly to build a new life to provide for their children. They never forgot how truly Blessed they were to be living in this great country - they never took their freedom for granted.
Candida has always been known for being a kind, loving and graceful woman. She never spoke ill of anyone. She truly loved children and enjoyed being playful and joyous with them. Candida enjoyed playing sports in her youth and as an adult enjoyed watching them. She was a Mets fan first then a Marlins fan.
Candida will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and happy outlook on life. She will be remembered for her strength, independence and love of family. Candida made the most delicious cakes and was an excellent cook.
Candida's children Raquel, Teresa, Salvador and Rosa will always remember their mother for not only being a caring and loving mother but being an incredible role model. She has taught them so many life lessons. No greater mother could they have ever asked for - she was a true light and profound gift.
Candida is survived by her husband Salvador, her children, three very loving and special grandsons Robby, Alexander and Jack. All three of the boys brought so much joy and love to her as their Abuela did to them. They share an everlasting bond that will live on in their hearts.
She is also survived by many beautiful nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law,and lots of extended family and friends.
Candida will be greatly missed because she is so greatly loved. Always in our hearts, forever with our soul.
Avow Hospice was a great source of comfort to Candida and her family in her last days - from the nurses to the music therapy to the chaplain, their support was immeasurable.
