Unfortunately I just found out about the passing of Mr marsala. He was a wonderful man very loving and was very blunt and honest when he needed to be. He taught me so much during my path to become a chef. A wonderful father a wonderful husband and he was always a true friend. My prayers are with all his children. I will continue living my life thinking of him often. A true loss.

My times with Mr marsala where wonderful and precious memories. He was so loving and caring yet always told you the truth and was blunt when he had to be. He was such a wonderful father loved his children so much. I truly will always respect him and he will always be in my prayers. I actually just found out today August 4th about his passing. Because last night I had a dream about him. He was a wonderful man that raise a wonderful family.

We were so very sorry to hear of the passing of Charlie. It was always wonderful reminiscing the old days and family when we visited Marsala’s. RIP Cologero.  Our Sincere condolences, Peter and Antoinette (Volpe) Tavella ♥️🙏

Charlie you will be missed!! I loved coming in for lunch and sitting with you at the Bar. We talked about all the old days and glad I shared with you my family here in America and my cousins and family in Sicily.
When I first came to the restaurant I knew that I would be a regular and I will miss seeing you when I come from now on!

My heart breaks for the Marsalas family.  Charlie was the sweetest man who loved his family and customers dearly.   I will miss his hugs and stories.  He always made me feel like part of the family and I cherished our time together.  He always asked about Chloe and loved bringing her panne and Olivie (bread and olives).   I know he’s with Connie and loved ones in heaven and happy because he did an amazing job creating a wonderful family who loves each other very much.  I will miss you Charlie.  Please give Connie and uncle Ray a big hug for me.  XOXO 

Marsala's was the first place we ate when we moved here 12 years ago. We've been eating pizza there almost every week ever since. Our four year old loves "Sala" as she called Mr. Marsala. She colored pictures for him and played "Sala's" at home, making Play-Doh pizza for her stuffies. He was always so kind to her, looking at anything she wanted to show him and giving her hugs - and mozzarella sticks. Rest easy, Charlie. Sending much love to the entire family.

Mr.Marsala known as Nanoo to my children. We were not family but he always made us feel like family and always hugged my kids. Our best memories were with many of the Marsala Family and Mr. Marsala at the restaurant and at many family milestones! He will be forever missed. 

Mr. Marsala was a wonderful man. He will be dearly missed by so many in our Estero community. May he Rest In Peace. Our deepest sympathy to the Marsala family. Sending love and prayers. 

Charlie was our neighbor in Tidewater but more than that, he was the most gracious host at Marsala’s.  He moved from table to table ensuring that everything was perfect and chatting with the clientele.  He always made us feel like we were family and I remember a particular discussion with him about Sicily.  Charlie is gone but not forgotten — he lives on in the hearts of those who met him.  

Met Mr. Marsala for the first time at his restaurant back in November of 2021. Have known Mark for many years and now understand where he gets his care and concern for others. Mr. Marsala was as engaging as can be with stories about his life, his restaurant and his amazing family!!

He truly never met a stranger. My husband met him in Dilliards they struck up a conversation where he shared that he was born in Sicily. My husband told him that I was Sicilian, so they found me and he introduced himself to me. I felt like I found a long lost uncle.  He made our visit to Naples memorable. I am thankful to have met him , he is now in the loving arms of our Savior and reunited with his beloved wife. Prayers and condolences to his family.

We met him a few years ago. I started calling him Zio Calogero (despite the fact we weren’t related). He was very gregarious. And yes, he loved to talk about his accomplishments AND his children and grandchildren. He invited us to order one of his specialties ‘spaghetti a la Marsala .’ We enjoyed the dish immensely which was full of clams, as we’ve enjoyed in other restaurants around the country. May he Rest In Peace.

Mr. Marsala always waved or shook my hand when I would come in to Marsala's to pick up a food order.  He would come over to our table when we dined there and tell us stories about Italy or about his family.  You are with the Angels now.  Rest in Peace.

I don’t even know where to begin, my nonno, the heart of our family. From all the years traveling to Florida to visit you and the family you were truly the happiest soul. All the memories at the house and pizzeria with you and nanna I will cherish and remember forever. From waking up in the morning and asking if we want any strawberrios or having breadsticks constantly in the pantry, you always knew how to take care of us.There comes points in our lives where we must reflect and look back on the good times and that’s what creates our future those very memories that we pass on to the next generation in our family. Nonno will never be forgotten and his legacy will always be told throughout this family and live on in all of us.

I will miss speaking to you and hearing your voice my family will miss visiting you and spending time with their nonno they will miss our trips to moms favorite place PF Chang’s . Thank you for making me the man, father and husband I have become.

My Nono ♥️ he taught me that family is the most important thing we have, he taught me discipline, he taught me establishing a routine, he taught me to always be proud of myself and my families accomplishments no matter what. One of the strongest and toughest men I know physically and mentally. Thank you for always thinking I’m a doctor. Love you always say Hi to Nana for us.

I had the pleasure of living with my nonno for a few months last year. It was so mesmerizing watching him in action. People used to always ask me if I was taking care of him meanwhile in reality he was taking care of me. He would get up do his shavey take his shower get dressed eat breakfast. I would get up and he already started his day 5 hours ago all ready to go to the pizzeria for lunch and I didn’t even have breakfast yet.  I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to know him. I think everyone who ever came in contact with him can say the same. No matter who he met, he had a way about him to make you seem like family no matter what.  He could talk to people for hours. And where every he went people knew him, even if they didn’t, by the time he left, they knew him. They knew how proud he was of his 6 children. And how much he loved his 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I am so happy to be 1 of the 17 my nonno loved so much. If I could be just 10 percent of the man he was I would be the happiest person in the world. May he Rest In Peace and be reunited with my nanna forever and always.  

Mr. Marsala represent the best of the human race. He loved his family and his friends. He will be missed by all. Keep the faith. 

Going to miss having lunch with Charlie at the restaurant.  Happy to have know him for the last year and talking about Staten Island.
