Alma was born August 13, 1932, in Crestline, Ohio, she was the daughter of Robert and Lucile (Knapp) Heibertshausen. She was preceded in death on December 3, 2020, by her husband, Edward J McCaffrey, who she married July 21, 1951.
She graduated from Crestline High school in 1950 and was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as a part time Church Secretary for several years.
She was a fulltime homemaker/mother/chef/finance director/chauffeur and all things that encompass taking care of a family in the fifties, sixties and seventies. In her spare time she was an avid gardener and member of the Crestline Patio Garden Club. She had a proverbial “green thumb” and took great pride in her rose garden and beautiful flowers that surrounded her home. Her Grandchildren called her a “fashionista”, and she always told them you must always look presentable and put your best face forward when going out in public.
In 1986 the McCaffrey’s retired to Naples, Florida and were fortunate enough to reside and make their home there until their deaths. Alma obtained her real estate license and was a Naples realtor for Executive Properties and worked part time in the real estate office. She loved the beach and spent many hours there absorbing the warmth of the sun, visiting with her friends and listening to the waves that brought her peace. She loved to travel so she and Ed took several trips out West and the United States during their 69 year marriage.
Most of all she leaves a legacy of “strong will” and a “never give up” spirit. She battled several illnesses throughout her lifetime and always came back stronger than ever. She always liked to say, “you just can’t give in”, and she lived by that spirit until the very end of her life.
She is survived by her two children, Leann (John) Blum, of Naples, Florida, and Stephen E. McCaffrey, also of Naples, Florida.
She also leaves her grandchildren, Leslie Workman, Ashland, Ohio, Andrea Whitmore, Lexington, Ohio, Max McCaffrey, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Gabrielle and Valerie McCaffrey, Austintown, Ohio.
Also surviving are great grandchildren, Morgan Workman, Torin McCaffrey, Weston Hempfield, Tori and MacKenzie Kaufman and Colson McCaffrey.
Also surviving is one niece, Louise (Jim) Petersen, of Fort Worth Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, William S. and Harriet L. Heibertshausen and nephew, Mark L Heibertshausen.
A private memorial service will be held in her honor by her children in Naples, Florida.
