Adelaide Duffy, age 87, passed away peacefully in the night at Terracina Gardens Rehab Center on Monday morning, September 9, 2024. Adalaide was valiantly fighting to overcome the many medical issues she was dealing with and the good lord decided it was time for her to have peace.
Adelaide was born on May 7, 1937 in Richmond Hills, Queens, New York and graduated from Dominican Commercial High School in June 1955 and married Elmer in 1957 and remarried him in July of 1982 (I know right) LOL. She worked in the business sector in New York from 1973-1986 before her and Elmer moved to Naples and she worked at the Collier County Government Center in the Solid Waste Dept. until 2004 and later as a cashier at Publix. Adelaide was truly a kind, caring, loving and sweet soul and person and always cared about others and never complained about her difficulties or challenges. The family was definitely blessed to have her for as long as we did. Those years from 1957 to 1973 Adelaide and Elmer were raising 3 children Rosemary, Donna, and John. As one of those children I can honestly say that they did a wonderful job and always did the best they could.
Adelaide is preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer, her courageous daughter Donna, her sister Adrienne and brother in law Frank, brother in law Al Duffy and wife Carol, and her three sister in laws, Muriel, Dottie, and Birdie and their husbands, Charlie, Freddie, and Billy. Lastly are her parents Raymond and Adelaide Huntley.
She is survived by her wonderful daughter and best friend Rosemary, and her son and caretaker John. Also her 2 amazing grandchildren, for which she was so proud of, nurse Kimberly and firefighter A.J., nephews Al, Skip, Raymond, and Billy boy, nieces Karen, Patty, Linny, and Colleen.
A special thanks to all the wonderful staff at Terracina Gardens that continued to care for and tried to help Adelaide all the way to the end. The family would like to extend its most heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Anthony M. D'Agostino and his wonderful staff (especially) Heidi for the care they gave both Adelaide and Elmer for 20 years.
In closing the family is so grateful and at comfort knowing that Adelaide's greatest journey is now before her.
Friends and family will gather on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 10-11 at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108 followed by her funeral at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will take place immediately following in Naples Memorial Gardens.
