February 26, 1947 – October 12, 2017
Dear family and friends Sharron Lavina Jackson, of Nanaimo, BC, passed away on Thursday morning October 12, 2017 at age 70. Her good friend David Cooper lovingly cared for Sharron and was with her when she died.
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift” was Sharron’s motto. In this time of grief, we take comfort in those words. Another favourite: “Stop worrying so much. Worry will not strip tomorrow of its burdens, it will strip today of its joy.”
Predeceased by her parents George Hugh Jackson (1915-1967) and Dorothy “Dot” Lavina Horth (1922-1994).
Starting in 1988 her mom, Dot, & Sharron enjoyed annual summer holidays in Parksville. This past summer was Sharron’s 29th visit! She enjoyed many happy holidays with family and friends. And furry friends as well like her dogs Jenny and Meesha.
Sharron grew up in East Wellington then moved to the City of Nanaimo where she has lived in the same home for the last 45 years. Sharron began her career working at the Nanaimo Court House as a stenographer. Next, she spent 25 years as a customer service representative for the BC Government. Sharron was a proud member of Nanaimo Empire Days Society. Volunteering was an important part of Sharron’s life. Her exceptionable office skills (she knew shorthand!) and her many contacts in the community were put to good use as a secretary for Branch 10 Legion.
After retirement, she had more time to pursue her life long passion of researching her family tree. She discovered her roots on Vancouver Island go back to 1850 with her great, great grandfather Henry Wain. As she uncovered elusive ancestors she would celebrate with a “happy genealogy dance.” During the many years of research Sharron connected with numerous cousins locally and abroad. Excellent sleuthing and organizational skills enabled her to compile a massive amount of information on thousands of people who are no longer lost to history but alive again in our memories.
Her good friend David Cooper, Cousin Jo-Anne Warnock, and a large family of relatives across the world would like to thank Dr. B. Calvin and the nurses & staff at NRGH Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Sharron’s memory to the Nanaimo S.P.C.A or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Family and Friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Sharron’s Life to be held on Sunday, November 19th at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10 (129 Harewood Road, Nanaimo, BC)
11 am – 2pm.
