Step family- Sheri (Joe) and daughter Julia, Rob (Leah) and son Liam. As well as, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Randy will be remembered as a loving, loyal and generous husband, dad, papa and friend. He lived life in the fast lane and brought so much to joy to those around him. He was always up for an adventure and was someone you could count on. He was known for his outrageous stories and big belly laughs. He was happiest when surrounded by family, friends and his tools.
Randy was born in Port Alberni. Upon graduation in 1964, he moved to Vancouver to train as a machinist at the Vocational Institute. In character with his penchant for a challenge, he earned his ticket at the remote facility in Ocean Falls.
Randy then moved back to Port Alberni where he began a successful career in the pulp and paper industry at the MacMillan and Bloedel Mill. There he became Maintenance Superintendent and later transferred to Harmac Mill in Nanaimo where his leadership motto “Attack the Day” was coined. He retained his position as Maintenance Superintendent until his retirement in 2004.
Family and friends have fond memories of the times spent at the property at Sproat Lake. Randy’s boat “The Banshee” gained legendary status at the time.
Randy never lost the love for being “on the tools”, and upon retiring he re-engaged these skills in his shop at his home in Lantzville. Frends and family alike, have been blessed with the generous gift of his beautiful creations made of steel. A love of Hot Rods also created a lifelong passion for building cars, and more recently, he enjoyed taking long road trips with friends in his treasured 31 Ford Coupe.
A devoted “Papa” to his grandchildren, Randy had an infectious zest for life. He will be remembered most dearly by his many friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Randy’s honour at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 2nd at the Nanaimo Curling Club, 106 Wall St, Nanaimo. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the charity of your choice in Randy’s name.
