Maria passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2022 at 98 years of age.
Maria was born on April 9, 1924 in Nederweert, Limburg, Netherlands, the eldest of seven. Maria married Johannes Thyssen in 1953 and they immigrated to Canada soon afterwards. They lived in Cedar, BC before moving to Nanaimo, BC in 1963 where they raised their children.
Maria is predeceased by her husband in 1994, her parents Maria and Jan van Nieuwenhoven, brothers Harry and Leo and sister Willy. Left to cherish her memory are her six children and their spouses, fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, with a new addition due in July.
There will be a private Catholic mass and burial on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 11:00 am to honour Mom (Oma).
