Judith was born in Southport England, on December 5, 1933. She first came to Canada as an evacuee during the Second World War. She returned in 1967 to make it her permanent home.
During her 26 years of service with the Nanaimo School Board she taught in many schools. However, her happiest years were at Princess Royal School and her last years as E.S.L. teacher at Georgia Avenue. She always said that her E.S.L. students taught her far more than she ever taught them, and she was very appreciative. All her students remained close to her heart.
After retirement, her hobbies included gardening, reading, hiking, cooking, and traveling.
She had a long, full interesting life. She leaves behind her daughter, Sarah Schmidt.
Mom was one of the strongest, most disciplined people I know. Yet she balanced that with a large heart. She loved her students, her cats, her home, and me. I was blessed to have her as my mother.
Waste no grief on me
A long and varied life I've seen
Both use and ornament been
Now my days are pain, worry, and
guilt, being the burden that I have become
Grieve not for me, but use your life to
do the things that I didn't
And revel in the joy it brings that I
continue in your thoughts and doings
Grieve not for me
That I have died
Rejoice with me that I am free
