Hers was a beautiful life that she built with her sweetheart Roy, and they celebrated every moment for more than 59 years before he passed in 2013. Her warmth and sense of humour lifted and led us throughout her life.
Joy had a natural ability for hospitality, and making others feel so special. Her family was her foremost priority and her list of true friends was long. Hers was a light & faith that shone brightly & she truly lived up to her name.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta & married in 1954, (Rheta) Joy moved with Roy & their 3 boys to Vancouver in 1966 and then to Nanaimo in 1977. She was a gifted scholar who loved reading, cooking & staying in touch with world affairs. She made many friends through Sorority & Rotary & will be remembered for her amazing family dinners.
Joy lived every day to its fullest! She & Roy had many adventures travelling to different parts of the world, but her family home was her haven that she gratefully shared with many family & friends. Joy spent her final 3 years living at Berwick on the Lake where she continued to build close friendships & charm all she met.
Joy is upheld with heartfelt love by her 3 boys, Bob, Bill & Bruce, and her cherished daughters-in-law Adrienne Hancox, Laurie Hancox, Bev Blackett & Carolyn Hancox-Barr (all who attest they won the "mother-in-law lottery" with Joy). Her heart was full of pure loving pride for her grandchildren Christie Love (Richard Love), Julia Dawson (Aaron Dawson), Nicholas Hancox & Scott Hancox. She will also be missed greatly by her great grandchildren Malakai, Ariah, Gabriel & Kate & her nieces & nephews who loved her dearly.
Joy joins those who left before her: husband Roy Hancox, father-in-law Aubrey Deprose, her brother Jack, brother-in-law Ron, sisters- in-law Joan Jacques and Gail Warde , as well as a host of others. May they watch over us all.
Joy & her family want to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to all the wonderful, caring staff at Berwick on the Lake who made her last years very comfortable and to her doctors who were so caring and professional.
"I have no regrets. I have had a wonderful life with my amazing family and many wonderful friends. I have done what I wanted, travelled where I wanted & loved deeply "- Joy.
