Irene Bell passed peacefully and painlessly in the early hours of June 18, 2021. She was 95 years old and never missed a day with a glass of her favorite wine. Irene (Grammie) was predeceased by her husband Don, and is lovingly remembered by her children, Cathy, Janice and Gord (Robin); her grandchildren, Jamie, Kallista (Chris), Erin (Mitch), Brittany (Ryan) and Cooper; her great-grandchildren, Lucas, Oliver and Lily; and other relatives and friends. Irene was quick to befriend all of our family pets and spent loads of time cuddling her furry friends. Irene loved to cook and entertain, and everyone was always welcome at her table. There are many photos of family and friends enjoying a delicious meal with a bottle of ketchup lurking in the shadows. Although her tomato aspic salad was a traditional item for Xmas dinner, she always forgot to put it out (and no one reminded her as we didn’t like it).
Irene loved to be with her family and socialize with friends. Even in her later years after a celebration ended she would want to know where the “after party” was going to be held.
Irene’s love of words kept her and her friends entertained with games and cross word puzzles. She was a fabulous secretary and edited a few of her children’s term papers (she is probably correcting the grammar now). Irene was prompted to buy a computer when they first came out. She signed up for lessons and used her skills at her secretarial job for the District of North Vancouver for many years.
In retirement Irene enjoyed travelling and saw many parts of the world with good friends and family members
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all the staff of Dufferin Place – Cedar Unit for their kindness and care in Irene’s final years.
Mom was loved by many and she will be missed by many. So we raise a glass to Irene, to a life lived long and well.
The family welcomes everyone to post pictures and stories. Remember, Irene will be watching for grammatical errors.
