It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Florence Evelyn Wilson, lovingly known as Evelyn, on December 3, 2024. Born on March 21, 1932, in Nanaimo, Evelyn was a beacon of love, kindness, and dedication to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, George and Florence Peacock; her brother, Thomas Peacock; and her devoted husband, Fred Wilson. She is survived by her children, Ken Wilson (Paddy) and Alice Currie (Richard); her sister-in-law, Carole Halle; her beloved grandchildren, Erin (Greg), Emily (Sarah), Heather (Shawn), and Paula (Alan); her cherished great-grandchildren, Braedan, Jesse, Patrick, William, Nathan, and Alyssa; as well as nieces and nephews . Evelyn's legacy of love and service will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
Evelyn was a kind and giving soul who selflessly put the needs of her family before her own. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of family bonds and community connections. She was the ultimate caregiver, spending countless hours nurturing her grandchildren, creating memories they will treasure forever.
A woman of many passions, Evelyn loved camping with her family, first at Nanaimo Lakes and later at Spider Lake Springs. Her generous spirit extended into the community, where she was a lifelong member of the Pythian Sisters of Nanaimo. Through her involvement, she helped organize and participate in events such as bazaars and walk-a-thons, raising funds for the Nanaimo Child Development Centre to support children with cerebral palsy. She was also an avid volunteer at Harewood and Fairview Schools, dedicating her time to enriching the lives of local children.
Evelyn also had a creative side and enjoyed crocheting, crafting, and singing. Whether hosting lively New Year’s parties in her younger years or enthusiastically participating in social activities at Woodgrove Manor, Evelyn cherished opportunities to connect with others. Her voice, always eager to join a sing-a-long, was a source of joy for those around her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Arnel and the exceptional caregivers at Woodgrove Manor, where Evelyn spent her final years. She truly loved her time there, a testament to the compassionate care she received.
Evelyn was a precious gem whose warmth, laughter, and love will forever be in our hearts. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Nanaimo Child Development Center or Diabetes Canada.
