Norrie was born Eleanor Alice Duncan in Rivers Manitoba on August 20th, 1949. She was the youngest daughter of Walter and Dorothy (Wareham) Duncan, and little sister to Anne (Roger, Jesse & Kate). The Duncan family moved to Calgary from Vermillion in 1963 where Norrie lived, worked, and built a foundational community of friends whose relationships lasted lifelong. She met Hilary in line for the bathroom at a party in Calgary and they were later married on May 22, 1983. Norrie and Hilary welcomed their daughter Arden in 1986 and her brother Noel in 1989, they lived in Calgary until 1999 when the family made the move to London, Ontario. Norrie, who was always quick to make friends, made many meaningful connections with friends in Ontario. After Hilary retired, they moved to Nanaimo to fulfil her lifelong dream of living on Vancouver Island. Much like their move to London, Norrie quickly made friends through the newcomer’s clubs and settled into island life. In 2019 she became a grandmother to Arden and Gray’s daughter Mary Jane. Norrie, or Nano to Mary Jane, was an amazing grandmother. In 2021, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and worked both tirelessly and creatively to do everything she could to have more time with her family, in particular Mary Jane.
She loved thrifting, hosting friends and family, and making people feel special. She was a bright light for so many and while her passing has left a hole in our hearts, she has provided us with great memories. Laughs, and times together.
