She was born June 16,1931 in Saunders Creek, Alberta, and she lived in Edmonton during her school years. At secretarial school she became proficient in Pitman Shorthand in which she excelled. She had an amazing ear for music, and played the accordion to everyone’s delight.
Mom had incredible writing skills, and although she never authored any books, she wrote for the high school newspaper and retained all those skills as an avid diarizer. At an early age, she began her life long passion for reading.
Full of adventure , she was once found climbing up the silo on the farm in Saskatchewan, as well as driving the tractor! In Vancouver, she didn’t hesitate to climb on board her son-in-laws motorcycle for a ride out to U.B.C.
She married Marvin Majocha, and after getting married, moved to Vancouver, B.C. During their time in Vancouver, they were the proprietors of several different business. Eileen wore many hats while living in Vancouver. She was an astute business woman who did most of the book-keeping for their businesses. She volunteered as a secretary for the P.T.A., and also the Health Unit where she helped out with weighing new born babies.
Mom and Dad were involved in the first Gastown Antique Emporium, and went on to develop The Antique Village Market. Mom enjoyed meeting new people, and loved delving into the history of the antiques that they sold. They were involved with renting items for movie sets, and had the thrill of meeting a few stars in person!!
Owning a business meant working for usually 6-7 days a week, which left little time for holidays or travel. Sunday drives to the country and Stanley Park always ended with a stop at Dairy Queen, where she loved the Hot Fudge Sundae, and Dad always got Butterscotch!! Mom had a delightful cruise to Alaska with her best friend, Geraldine, and at a later date, a cruise to Mexico with her daughter. Never complaining, but always looking at the bright side allowed her to conquer any obstacles life threw her way.
Eileen spent her last years in Nanaimo, B.C. Here she was able to visit with both her grand-children and great-grand children, and be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. Family dinners, and some Island outings were a highlight for her. She became a resident at Dufferin Place from March 2015.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Marvin, her parents Olga and Walter Wessley, her sister Mary , and brother Fred. She is survived by her daughter, Marleen (Philip), Grand children : Shanna (Jarret), Karen (Dwight) , Lisa (Tom), Daniel (Kaylee).. and 6 great grand children.
The family would like to thank all the nurses, and care aides and staff at Dufferin Place. She was taken care of with so much love and kindness.
