Passed away Sept 29, 2023, at the age of 90 with her family by her side. She got to enjoy one last big birthday celebration with her family, and the day was perfect.
Doreen was born in Vancouver, BC, to her loving parents, Edwin and Ellen Johnson. She was the youngest of 5 siblings. She is predeceased by Jim, her husband of 61 years. She is survived by her sons, Rick (Laurie), Chris (Stefanie), her daughter, Lee Anne (Marc), and grandchildren, Michael (Sarah), Carolyn (Scott), Andrea (Brendan), Duncan (Kristy), Heather, Shane (Aim), Megan (Trevor), Emilie (Collin), and Charlotte (Archie), as well as great grandchildren, Claire, Theo, Jonathon, Josephine, and Logan.
Mom enjoyed many activities through the years with Dad by her side: golfing, skiing, tennis, badminton, bridge, and especially, travelling. After her retirement from a career with CIBC, she and dad enjoyed their casino trips to Reno and winters in Yuma. When Dad passed, she moved from Kelowna to Nanaimo to live close to Lee Anne, and they spent many days enjoying each other’s company. She made a home for herself at Nanaimo Seniors Village and got involved with their many activities even as her eyesight failed. She thoroughly enjoyed her family and took pride in their accomplishments. She loved to hear all the stories about the younger generation’s lives and adventures.
We offer our sincere gratitude to the staff on Emerald Place in Nanaimo Senior’s Village who treated our mom with such tenderness and love during the time she was in their care. We are forever grateful.
There will be no service as per Mom’s request. Mom’s name will join Dad’s on the memorial bench that she chose, in Lantzville.
