Whether it was just Mom’s personality, or because she suffered a couple of serious illnesses as a child, she lived an amazing and fulfilled life. She travelled, she had her hobbies, she always made time for family & friends. Mom was artistic and creative, and there were not many hobbies and crafts that she did not try… family and friends have many treasured gifts made by her hands. She was a skilled seamstress, and had a beautiful wardrobe to show for it. She knit and donated thousands of lap blankets, shawls, and worry dolls to the Nanaimo Hospital through the years. Crocheting, basket weaving, beading, embroidery and needlework of all kinds, painting, card making, and every assortment of crafts one could dream up – Mom did them all.
Mom met the love of her life, Wilf Seaker, in the mid 1980’s – they worked at the same office. Dad started out giving Deanne golf lessons, which, happily, lead to marriage in May of 1989. They shared a wonderful life together, encouraging each other in everything they did. We will be forever grateful that Dad brought Mom into the family – the legal term may be ‘step-Mom’, but our hearts did not need such clarification – she was family – she was loved.
Mom was predeceased by her father in 1995, her mother in 1997, and her beloved husband, Wilf, in 2012. The family mourning her passing are, her step-son, Greg, daughter-in-law, Kathryn, step-grandson, Shayne, his partner, Jody, and her very precious great-Grandchildren.
Mom also leaves behind many dear, dear friends – many from 40-70 years ago, and several more recent. Maintaining friends for a lifetime is incredible and says a great deal about the person. Mom was pragmatic, warm, caring, generous, & non-judgmental - she accepted those she loved as they were. Her loyalty was never-ending – her love was true-blue.
The last year was difficult for Mom, not that she ever complained, but those close to her knew it was a struggle. While we are glad that she suffers no more, Deanne will be forever missed by those who loved her. Rest in peace, Mom...
