She graduated from John Oliver High School in 1948 and went on to enroll in the nursing program at St Paul’s Hospital. During this time, Bernice met some very special friends with whom she stayed in touch with over the years, enjoying many great times together.
She moved to Nanaimo in 1950 at the age of 20 and went to work at Madill’s. Bernice met Neil during this time, and they were married July 23rd, 1955. In 1957, Neil and Bernice built a house in the Brechin area of Nanaimo, where they lived until the kids graduated from high school. Neil and Bernice also built a cabin in the early 1960’s, at Dolphin Beach in Nanoose Bay, where their family spent every summer.
In 1979, Bernice and Neil built their dream home at Madrona Point, Nanoose Bay, and they moved on to the next chapter in their lives. They spent many fun filled days with friends and family at their beautiful home. Bernice and Neil made many memories cruising the waters in their Tollycraft ‘Thunderbird’. They also loved travelling, and had the opportunity to visit many destinations with friends and family. Bernice had lots of fun with new and old friends when she moved into Berwick in 2017. She especially enjoyed the ‘Friday Happy Hours’ and her crib group.
Bernice was an outgoing, happy and caring person and loved hosting family get-togethers, she always had a smile for everyone she met. Bernice loved her family very much and was extremely proud of everyone.
