William "Billy" T. Williams of Nacogdoches passed away Monday, May 21, 2019, in Nacogdoches at the age of 88. He was born September 27, 1930, in Garrison to parents Benjamin Sexton Williams and Alma Emma (Watkins) Williams.
Billy married his late wife, Mary Juanita, on November 10, 1950, in Houston, Texas. He was proud to have served his country during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany for The United States Army. He was eventually promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years. A civic-minded man, Billy was an active member in his community. He served on the civic club, worked local elections, and was once named Citizen of the Year in Houston. Mr. and Mrs. Williams later retired to Garrison in the early 1980’s to be closer to family.
Billy was a man of strong faith. He served as an elder at Lindale Church of Christ in Houston. He also was a member of Stallings Drive Church of Christ in Nacogdoches where he often greeted people as they walked through the door. He could relate to and carry on a conversation with anyone he met. His family and friends will miss his genuine smile. Mr. Williams was a good listener who was caring, dependable, and steadfast. He took pride in his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also an outstanding citizen and patriot.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Mary Juanita Williams; and son-in-law, Thomas Jamar.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Denise Jamar of Garrison and Sandra Kay Sanchez and husband Larry of La Porte; grandchildren, Leah Suzanne Tomlinson and husband Jon of Timpson, Laura Ashley Luna of La Porte, and Stephanie Kay Stone of Garrison; and great-grandchildren, Kade Dingler and Cash Michael Tomlinson.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Cason Monk-Metcalf. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2019, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel officiated by Randy Harshbarger and Jay Taylor. Interment will follow at Holly Springs Cemetery.
