Wesley Earl Taylor, 87, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away in Nacogdoches on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. He was born to Laura Carter Taylor and Andy Dixon Taylor on September 14, 1932, in Hughes Springs, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years stationed in Heidelberg, Germany.
He graduated from Hughes Springs High School, Kilgore Junior College, Sam Houston State University (earning a Bachelor’s degree and a Master of Education degree). Wesley taught one year at Central Consolidated in Pollok, Texas; teacher, coach, administrator in Latexo ISD; teacher, basketball coach, administrator in Kennard ISD; administrator in Elkhart ISD (retired in 1990); interim superintendent in Slocum ISD, Slocum, Texas; interim superintendent in Cushing ISD, Cushing, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Doretta Taylor; children, Debra Blackmon and husband Jerry, Jody Taylor and wife Sheri; grandchildren, Lerin Blackmon Russell and husband Collen and Jerrod Blackmon; great-grandchildren, Logan Russell and Caylee Russell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Orben Taylor, Thelbert Taylor, Vaughn Taylor, A.D. Taylor, Jr., Faye Rhyne, Mary Taylor, Grace Follis, Bernelle York, and Maurine Nowell.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, 2020, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. Private graveside services will be held at Shelton-Rankin Cemetery in Hughes Springs, Texas.
