Thomas Bert Hurst passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 16th, 2025, in Baytown, TX at the age of 83. He was born on June 21st, 1941, in the Shady Grove Community of Nacogdoches County, TX and was one of five sons born to Berte L. and Mattie (Mills) Hurst.
Tom graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1959 followed by some coursework at Stephen F. Austin University. He went on to work for NIBCO shortly thereafter and remained there for over 38 years as a Machinist and Supervisor in the Core Department.
Tom (nicknamed “Buffalo”) was a deacon and active member of First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches. He loved the Lord and had a desire to share the gospel with those around him. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding for many years and then travelling via RV later in life; however, it was the ability to do these activities with family and friends that he truly cherished. He was passionate about his NASCAR, music (playing the guitar), and an active hunter and fisherman throughout his lifetime. In addition, Tom was always quick to forgive and very supportive of his family and friends no matter the circumstances. He was also known (even by his nurses) to always have a positive attitude, a good sense-of-humor, and a smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Havard/Wingate) Hurst; daughters Sheryl Monroe, Gay Lynn Gose (engaged to Kelvin Evett), and Christy (and husband Barry) Huggins; his stepson Kyle Wingate; grandchildren Lauren (and husband Eric) Conditt, Carmen Monroe, Erin Monroe, Dagan Gose, Grant (and wife Ana) Gose, Trace Huggins, Kolton Wingate (engaged to Hailey Herrick), and Kailey Wingate; brother, Ronald (and wife Ann) Hurst, and four great grandchildren in addition to many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Berte and Mattie Hurst; spouse Glenna (Moss) Hurst; brothers Harrison, Marlon, and Denny Hurst; and daughter-in-law Larami (Cathey) Wingate.
Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday, March 22nd, at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be on Friday, March 21st at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
