Mrs. Stevens was born July 1, 1920, in Nacogdoches County to parents Preston and Sallie Till, She had lived in the Houston area several years and was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church.
Her life was devoted to her family. Mrs. Stevens was a wonderful, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading her Bible daily.
Her survivors include a son, James Terry Stevens and wife Vicki; daughter, Linda Stevens Duncan; granddaughter, Jami Duncan-Talley; grandson, James Matthew Stevens and wife Melissa; three great-grandchildren, Blake Cellum, Kayla Cellum, and Emma Stevens; brother-in-law, George Shumate; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Truman Stevens, in 1990; sisters, Lorene Boyett and husband Laney, Oberia Shumate, Virginia Burt and husband Noel “Red” Burt; and a brother, Morris Gene Till.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Bethel Baptist Church, located on Happy Land Road in Appleby, Texas, with Bro. John Lowrie of Terrell’s First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Bryant, Brad Boyett, Evan Kilgo, Don Phillips, Kenneth Boyett, and Bill Shumate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Bethel Cemetery Fund, 270 County Road 2082, Nacogdoches, TX 75965-6900.
