Suzanne Ferguson of Nacogdoches, Texas, beloved wife of Kent Ferguson, passed peacefully surrounded by her family into the arms of her savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 8, 2023, after a brief illness. Suzanne was born January 6, 1940, in Port Arthur, Texas, to John Ray and Helen (Farrington) Sadler. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Suzanne enjoyed gardening and was an avid tennis player. She was the “go to mom” for her children’s activities, providing cookies, cupcakes, and other sweets. Later, she found a career as a private investigator conducting investigations nationwide. Suzanne and husband Kent travelled extensively and upon retirement, relocated to their beloved “Flying F Ranch” near Nacogdoches, where they enjoyed all that country life has to offer. In their spare time, Suzanne and Kent enjoyed attending Stephen F. Austin University basketball games and were involved as player sponsors for many years.
She was a cancer survivor who volunteered for radio frequency ablation research, which received nationwide attention and being observed by hundreds of doctors at M.D. Anderson. She volunteered for Relay for Life and was selected as Ambassador by the American Cancer Society to lobby Senators and Congressman in Washington, DC for more funding. When her mother died of Alzheimer’s disease, she and Kent started the Gathering at the First United Methodist Church in Conroe that provided entertainment for Alzheimer’s patients and respite for care givers. After moving to Nacogdoches in 2011 she has volunteered at Nacogdoches Medical Center, Love Inc., and numerous church activities. Suzanne was a member of Newcomers and First United Methodist Church in Nacogdoches.
Suzanne is survived by her husband Kent; daughters, Shelly (Brett) Offutt of Charles Town, West Virginia, Nancy (Brian) Gallier of Cushing, Texas, and Laura (Shane) McGinnis of Katy, Texas; step daughter, Vikki Reed of Athens, Texas; step son Bill (Amber) Ferguson of Willis, Texas; grandchildren, Tyler Offutt of Rogers, Arkansas, Mason Offutt of Charles Town, West Virginia, Connor Gallier of Rockwall, Texas, and Austin Gallier of College Station, Texas; step grandchildren, Devin (Amber) Davis of Athens, Texas, and Taylor (Noah) Hendrixson of Houston, Texas; step great-grandchildren, D.J. Davis and Alannah Davis of Athens, Texas; and brother, James E. Sadler of Georgetown, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jack Sadler.
A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 201 E Hospital Street in Nacogdoches on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 2:00 pm, with reception to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests friends donate in Suzanne’s memory to Love Inc., or their favorite charity.
