On Friday evening November 8, 2024, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Richard Charles "Rick" Hagel passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. Rick was born in Waco, Texas on March 3, 1945 and raised by his parents, Richard Leonard and Audrey Mary Hagel, in Houston, Texas. He attended Catholic schools but graduated from Spring Branch High School and later attended University of Houston. While in Houston, he married his high school sweetheart Lisa and began working for the Houston Chronicle.
Rick and Lisa moved to Nacogdoches in 1987, accepting a job with Burns, Morris, & Stewart. While there, he invented the "FrameSaver" an innovative rot-proof exterior door frame that changed the building industry. Upon retiring from BMS, he moved to Hackberry, Louisiana to pursue his passions of fishing on the coast and hunting. He also relished flying his Piper Saratoga and playing golf at some of the more renowned golf courses. Rick, not one to sit still too long, gave up on retirement and started building vacation homes on the coast. His business was aptly called Pintail Construction and Development.
After about a half a dozen Hurricanes that hit or affected the Louisiana coast, Rick decided to move closer his to family and dry land, moving back to Nacogdoches, Texas in 2021.
Rick was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a "Sir Knight" in the Knights of Columbus. Rick's innovation, laugh, and zeal for life will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Leonard and Audrey Mary Hagel, his Aunt Lucile Hagel and his brother-in-law A.J. Magelky.
Rick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lisa Hagel; sons, Rafe Hagel and wife Adana of Nacogdoches, and Chad Hagel of Louisiana; grandchildren Alisha Ferrell and husband Austin; Abigail Jones; Alizabeth Gedeon and husband Austin; great grandchildren Annie, Lucy, Maverick, and Sophie Ferrell; Audrey and Weston Jones; sister Kathy Magelky; and a host of nieces and nephews and countless friends.
