Richard Skowronski, 60, passed peacefully into heaven on November 5, 2022 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on June 16, 1962, third of three sons to Casimer A. Skowronski and Laura B. (Modelska) Skowronski in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Saint Stephens High School and did his undergraduate training at Northern Michigan University. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Science from Marquette University School of Dentistry.
Rick married Joe'l Rose (Hall) Skowronski on August 9, 1986. They were blessed with a daughter, Andrea (David) Henry of Garrison, Texas, a son, Eric C. Skowronski of Nacogdoches, Texas, and a grandson, Calvin Carlin of Garrison, Texas all of whom survive him.
Rick is also survived by his brothers Carl Skowronski of West Palm Beach, Florida, Ray (Mary) Skowronski of Myersville, Maryland, brothers-in-law Edward (Margaret) Hall of Millington, Michigan, Mark Hall of Nacogdoches, Texas and sister-in-law Kathy (Larry) Lawlace of Nacogdoches, Texas.
He is predeceased by his parents Casimer and Margaret Skowronski of Saginaw, Michigan, Laura Modelska Skowronski of Lake City, Michigan, parents-in-law Joseph and Violet Hall of Millington, Michigan and Nacogdoches, Texas and his sister-in-law Kay Skowronski of West Palm Beach, Florida.
Dr. Rick practiced family dentistry in Frankenmuth, Michigan for about thirty years before moving to Nacogdoches and joining the Brown Family Health Center. Rick was pleased to be able to make many short-term mission trips doing and teaching dentistry in Central African Republic, Chad, Kenya and Haiti. He founded Donate a Smile to assist underprivileged people to receive dental care.
He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Saginaw, Michigan for more than thirty years. During that time he often served on the Deacon Board and especially enjoyed working with the youth and college aged members.
After his move to Nacogdoches he found fellowship at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Rick volunteered as chaplain for Westward Trails Nursing and Rehabilitation until his health wouldn't allow him to continue.
He authored a fantasy novel called, Syren's Call, and was able to finish The Chronicles of Westpost trilogy.
He loved being a member of the Bay City Independents Base Ball Club. He was recruited as their Arbiter which he embraced wholeheartedly, but was thrilled to occasionally have a chance to play second base with the gents.
His zeal for ministry, enthusiasm, and encouragement will be missed by many.
Funeral service will be November 15, 2022 visitation from 12:30 to 1:30, service at 2:00 p.m at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Randy Booth officiating. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to GCPC Ketchen Fund.
