Marilyn and I were best friends growing up so I remember Randy mostly as just a little boy. Probably my most vivid memory was when he gave me a dog for my 14th birthday! My sympathy goes out to all of you in your loss. May God grant you peace and comfort and may your memories bring you joy.

To the Ward family:  I started 1st grade with Randy and graduated with him.  He was always kind and thoughtful with a great sense of humor, someone you could count on. From the other messages I've read these trait carried on in his adult life.  That in itself is a great testimony. I remember when he brought the song "1814" to school when we were in the 4th grade. (The part where they powered the alligators behind was really racy) He also drew my name at Christmas that year and He gave me a bracelet with the books of the Bible on it. Our class was like a family, we treated each other like brothers and sisters and even though we haven't kept in touch, other than class renunions, he will be missed and thought of often.

To the Ward family:  I knew Randy in El Dorado.  In 2007 I was writing a business book and needed a real world example of character and integrity.  I remembered a story that Randy had told me a year before.  It was perfect. I included it without using his name and without telling Randy. After the book was published, I gave Randy a copy.  You can imagine how surprised and pleased he was with having his personal story included in the book.   He immediately recognized himself in the book. Of all the wonderful people I’ve met in my life, I chose the singular story about Randy Ward as an example of a virtuous man.  How we will miss this moral, honorable man.   It was an honor for me to know him.

Dear Ward Family, I am sorry for your loss.  There will be many people in the poultry industry who will miss Randy.  I got to know Randy when he was at El Dorado working for Pilgrims.  He then went to work for a competitor, but I still considered him a friend.  Randy bought my lunch with the Pilgrim's Nacogdoches group last month. I told him I would buy next time.
