Patricia “Carol” Long, age 71, of Nacogdoches, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in Nacogdoches. She was born in Nacogdoches on November 10, 1952, to parents Gaylon Dale Long and Nelda Faye Pitts.
Carol attended Nacogdoches High School and worked at the local Hoya Library shelving books. Later she would become employed with Gay Products crafting lawn furniture on the assembly line.
Carol loved Jesus, her church, and studying with the ladies in her Bible Study class at University Church. She also enjoyed singing the hymns and being part of the choir for many years. Carol was quiet and reserved but always had a smile on her face for everyone. After moving to Meadowview, she delighted in her independence and felt love and acceptance from her “new” friends and family. It was here that she developed a love of arts and crafts, playing games, and enjoying being with her new friends and neighbors. Carol adored traveling with her family as long as she could be indoors, where she would not be too hot or too cold. Hawaii was her favorite place to visit because the weather met her ideal temperature – neither hot nor cold – and she enjoyed God’s beautiful creation. Although, last year on a July family trip to Galveston Texas, she found herself pleased to be sitting on the beach listening to the waves pass by. The smile on her face was pure pleasure! Carol had nicknames given to her, but to her nephews she was known as “Arly” and “Aunty Carol.” The smile could not stop even when she was upset with them. She had a great memory--never forgetting anything, especially when her family had promised a surprise of one of her favorite treats - ice cream, coke, or a Dr. Pepper. We were blessed.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and great niece, Hannah Williamson.
She is survived by her sister, Judith Williamson and husband Howard of Nacogdoches; nephews, Greg Williamson and wife Heather of Anchorage, Alaska, and Brad Williamson and wife Michelle of Douglass, Texas; great-nieces, Kayla Micci and husband Stephen and Benjamin, Lauren Williamson and Olivia Williamson; great-nephews, Josh Williamson, Clayton Williamson and wife Olivia, and Gaylon Luke Williamson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1 at 11 am in the Cason Monk-Metcalf Chapel. The visitation will start at 10 am. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Bro. Dennis True will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 ST Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105 and the Special Olympics Texas- East Texas Area, 3416 Denman Ave. Suite 4 Lufkin, Texas, 75901.
