A Memorial Service for Milton R. Pitts (85) will be held, 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 16, 2022, Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Services will be conducted by Rev. Lorraine Brown, Associate Pastor of First United Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. Doc Lazarine. Visitation one hour before the service.
Milton was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on July 21, 1936 to parents Elmer Haden Pitts, Sr. and Maggie Myers Pitts.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy Bowman Pitts; step-son, Carson Kreed Bowman; brother, Charles H. Pitts; sisters, Esther Laverne Pitts Yates and Mary Haden Pitts Schultz. He is survived by son, Charles Merritt Pitts and wife Rae of Singapore; very special grandson, Bryson Kreed Bowman; brother, Elmer Pitts, Jr. and wife Edna of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, June Clifton Price and husband Mike Price. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Pat Merritt Pitts of Houston.
Milton had a special relationship with a host of nieces and nephews, whom he loved greatly. He had many friends and relatives who mattered a lot to him during his lifetime.
After graduating Nacogdoches High School in 1954, Milton attended the University of Texas at Arlington and Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. He began his career in insurance in 1957 in Nacogdoches. He was promoted to Manager of the New Orleans Louisiana Office, before transferring to Houston in 1966. Milton maintained offices in Houston and Nacogdoches, and worked in his Nacogdoches office until his death. Milton was active in church and community affairs. Most of Milton’s volunteer work was based on his love for young people and concern about their education. He was on the Board of Directors of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many years which he enjoyed very much. He was also on the Board of the Houston YMCA, and one of the founders of the NHS Alumni Association.
