Malinda Johnson Lindsey passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Christus Mother Frances in Tyler, Texas, following a brief illness. She was 55 years old.
Born on October 11, 1969, in Nacogdoches, Texas, Malinda dedicated her life to education. Her love story with Bubba Lindsey began with a memorable first date on July 4th during high school, which blossomed into a lifelong partnership. They married on June 15, 1991, and shared over 30 wonderful years together, rooted in love, mutual respect, and a shared dedication to family.
Malinda graduated from Nacogdoches High School and continued her education at Stephen F. Austin State University obtaining a bachelor’s degree, while also working toward her Master of Education. Her career in education spanned Laneville ISD, Nacogdoches ISD, and culminated in her retirement as superintendent of Kennard ISD. Known for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication, she touched the lives of thousands of students and colleagues, leaving an enduring legacy. Malinda was baptized and was of the Christian faith, finding strength and comfort in her beliefs throughout her life.
In her free time, Malinda loved to stay busy. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bingo, and cherished every opportunity to participate in activities with her family. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Lindy.” They were truly the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Malinda is survived by her devoted husband, Bubba Lindsey; her sons Garret Lindsey and his wife Chelsea, John Lindsey and his wife Cassady, and Seth Lindsey and his girlfriend Lindsey Sanders; and her beloved grandchildren, Memphis Lindsey, Olan Lindsey, Journie Lindsey, and Flint Lindsey. She is also survived by her mother, Kitty O’Keefe Eilenstein, and her husband, Tommy; her sister, Anna Cordova, and her husband, Tommy Cordova; as well as her nieces Jessica Brown, Sydney Cordova, Claire Cordova, and Theresa Cordova; and her best friend, Tiffany Swindle.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney Wayne Johnson, and her brother, Sidney Wayne Johnson Jr. Her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched will carry her memory forever in their hearts.
A visitation for Malinda will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
Malinda will be laid to rest in Harmony Cemetery, Nacogdoches , Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to your local public school in memory of Malinda’s lifelong dedication to education.
