Gran-Gran, as she was known by many, passed away on Sunday, August 22, surrounded by family. Her legacy of unconditional love will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found comfort in Isaiah 46:4, “I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”
Mrs. Samford is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Gay and Charles Oren of Murphy, Sheila and Allen Smith of Nacogdoches, and son and daughter-in-law, Joe Van and Linda Samford of Highland Village. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, her brother-in-law, Morris Samford of Carthage, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Samford was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Van P. Samford.
Visitation will Wednesday, August 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors. Mrs. Samford’s son, sons-in-law, grandsons, and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family especially thanks Dr. Richard Baker and staff, Memorial Hospital, Crown Home Health Services, and the Arbor Family and staff. Special gratitude is extended to our loving caregivers: LaTasha, Vicki C., Lawanna, Gladys, Jerri Ann, Ashley, Linda, and Vicki B.
