Liddie Wallace was born November 30, 1921 in Sealy, Texas. She passed away peacefully with her son and daughter in law holding her hands on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. She is the daughter of the late Louie and Mary Gregurek of Bay City, TX. Liddie worked at the local dime store where she met her husband, James Wade Wallace, Jr. and they relocated to his hometown of Edinburg, Texas. Liddie then graduated from business school and eventually opened a boutique store called “The Candle House”. Later she opened two Hallmark stores…one in Edinburg, TX and the other in Weslaco, TX until she retired in 1989.
Liddie was a devoted mother to her beloved son, Ralph and gave all her time to him and his family. She adored her daughter in law, Sheri and her granddaughters, Amanda and Emily. She was faithful in helping in all things where it benefitted her family. Liddie was extremely involved with her church, and she entertained not only her friends, many business associates of her husband, senators, movie stars and community officials throughout her early life and was once awarded a silver service from the president of Mexico. She loved yard work, cooking, baking, housekeeping, polishing silver and crafting. Most of all, her love for Jesus was inspiring. She could sing every Gaither song and she recited the Lord’s Prayer daily. She was strong and resilient in everything that she did. Liddie had one great granddaughter, Ella, which she was very proud of.
Liddie is survived by her son and his family; Ralph Wallace and his wife Sheri of Nacogdoches, TX and their children Amanda Wallace of Nacogdoches, TX; Emily Hamilton and her husband, William Hamilton of New Caney, TX and one great granddaughter, Ella Morgan Hamilton of New Caney, TX. She is also survived by her sister Tootsie Heuerman of Arlington, TX; her sister-in-law, Betty Gregurek of Hearne, TX; her sister-in-law, Rene Wallace of Mission, TX and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
She will be missed for her amazing talents in decorating and her meticulous yard work. Also, for her amazing recipes like her blackberry souffle, stewed chicken, spaghetti amorè, sock it to me cake and cranberry fluff. The family was so fortunate to have such a beacon in our lives for so long.
The Ralph Wallace family would like to extend special thanks to Garrison Nursing Home for their expert care. Maria Servin and Rebecca Ramirez for their care and generosity throughout the years. Dr. Cengiz Satir for his unwavering medical care. Jerry Morgan for his love and commitment to her love for Jesus.
