It is with great sadness that the Spencer family announces the passing of our patriarch, John Thomas Spencer, III. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a charitable man who loved his community.
John “Tiny” Spencer, III was born on May 20, 1954 in Henderson, Texas to John T. Spencer, Jr. and Dorothy Blue Spencer and died at the age of 69 at his home in Etoile, Texas on July 5, 2023.
John grew up in Monahans, Texas where he met his wife of 52 years, Brenda Williams. John and Brenda lived all around Texas and even spent some time living in Venezuela. They finally settled in the East Texas area, where they resided for over 40 years and raised their four children, Ronnie, Steven, John, and Amy.
John made his career in the oilfield where he met some of his best friends including Mike Webb, Phil “Flipper” Murray, Steve Smithers, Matt Telfer, Charlie Brown, and numerous others. When John and these friends got together, they told some of the best stories that would have you laughing until your belly hurt.
The front porch of his shop was John’s favorite meeting place. There were many gatherings there, and numerous problems solved or created right there. Many stories, smiles, and tears were shared on the porch.
John retired at the age of 62. John and Brenda made many memories traveling around the United States and enjoying time with their family. There was nothing John was prouder of than his family.
John was known by many names depending on how long you knew him. Some might call him Big John, and others might call him Tiny. You were fortunate if you got to call him a friend.
Preceding John in death are his parents, John Spencer, Jr. and Dorothy Blue Spencer and his sisters Joyce Torbert and Johnnie Faye Mackie.
