Joan Tindall Clifton passed away on August 19th. She was born July 5, 1938 in Nacogdoches, the firstborn child of Homer Culberson Tindall and Alpha Matlock. She was raised in Nacogdoches County, graduated from Nacogdoches High School in the Class of 1956, and remained life-long friends with many of her classmates.
Joan married Benard Clifton on December 20, 1957 in Nacogdoches. They had one child. They joined College Heights Baptist Church (now University Baptist Church) where Joan sang in the choir for many years.
She worked in the public school system, primarily as Secretary to the NISD Elementary Coordinator. She then retired as the Secretary of the Early Childhood Lab at SFA.
She was predeceased by her parents and an infant sister.
Joan is survived by her husband Benard Clifton and their son Terry and his wife Tina, all of Nacogdoches, granddaughter, Allyson Glass and husband Jonathan of Tomball, and grandson Bennet Clifton and wife Taylor of Cypress. Her great grandchildren are Henry Rhodes Glass and Meredith Kate Glass, both of Tomball.
She is also survived by her brother Homer Dean Tindall of Dallas, and sisters Ann Tindall of Tyler and Katie McDill of Mesquite, Judy Tindall and Sammie Holmes, both of Nacogdoches, plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held graveside for Joan Tindall Clifton on Saturday, August 26th, at 11:00 AM in Helpenstell Cemetery, Nacogdoches County.
