Jessie Marie Johnson, 89, was born in Shelby County, Texas, October 27, 1927, to Maude McCauley Johnson and Jessie Lee Johnson. She had lived in Nacogdoches for 60 years. She graduated from Center High school in 1944. She retired from AT&T with 38 years of service, as well as a perfect attendance record. After retirement, she worked at JC Penney for several years.
She was an avid bird watcher, animal lover, and talented photographer. She loved to travel with friends and visited many countries, but her favorite place was Ireland. She was a member of Stallings Drive Church of Christ and the Telephone Pioneers Club.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; and a nephew, Michael Fancher.
Survivors include sister, Virginia Suire of Groves; nephew, Raymond Fancher of Beaumont; niece, Kathleen Fancher of Dallas; great niece, Leslie Stegemoller and husband Louis, Rachel Camp and husband Kevin of Denver and grand nephew, Michael Fancher of Chicago. Also surviving are grand nieces, Sage Stegemoller, Aislinn Garcia and Caroline Rhodes; as well as many special friends, who have become like family over the years and her very caring church family.
The family wishes to give a special “thank you” to neighbors, Michael and Nancy Collins, whose kindness will always be remembered.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches.
A graveside service will be held at following the visitation at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in Ms. Johnson’s name to the SPCA, 900 Portway Drive,
Houston, TX 77024.
