Jean Rogers Powers, 73, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away August 23, 2017, in Nacogdoches. She was born October 28, 1943, in Sikeston, Missouri, to parents, Dr. Eugene S. Rogers and Helen Worth Rogers.
Jean lived most of her life in Nacogdoches. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School and earned a bachelors and master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. Jean spent her career teaching young children in Timpson and later in Nacogdoches. She taught kindergarten at Jones Kindergarten, Brooks-Quinn Jones Kindergarten, and TJR Elementary School. In addition to teaching young children, Jean loved animals. She rescued many animals in her neighborhood as well as providing wonderful care for her pets.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Jenny Powers Aiavolasiti. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Jerry E. Rogers and wife Linda, of McKinney, Texas; her niece, Adrienne Rogers of Portland, Oregon; and son-in-law, Keith Aiavolasiti of Nacogdoches.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
