Janise Lynne Barkocy, age 50, died peacefully in the arms of her beloved husband Gary on October 9, 2019 at their ranch in Nacogdoches, TX. After a courageous battle with cancer, she was blessed to be with her parents and precious animals Stemi, Joules, Rosie and Hope Barkocy by her side.
Janise was born May 7, 1969 in Oyster Bay, NY to Raymond and Grace Searby. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse through the Nursing Program at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA. She married Dr. Gary A. Barkocy in Oyster Bay, NY on September 25, 1999. She began her nursing journey in pediatrics and then created a successful cardiology career that lasted 30 years. She moved to Nacogdoches, TX in 2008 where she co founded and managed Heart to Heart Cardiovascular Associates with Gary.
Janise is a Dame in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a Registered Nurse in the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions, and a member of the Stephen F. Austin State University Dean’s Circle.
Besides caring for family and friends, Janise had a passion for God, sailing, reading, traveling, and walks with Gary and the dogs. She had a bright and energetic personality and was known for her ability to sense what other people needed. She was a calming spirit who brought an amazing light into the lives of every person she touched.
She is survived by her husband and her parents who reside in Oyster Bay, NY, her sister and brother-in-law Lauren and Michael Haines of Cold Spring, NY, her niece and nephew and cousins, and a host of friends and patients.
Family and friends are invited to a attend a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 2 PM Monday, October 14, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches with Fr. Gavin Vaverek officiating. A rosary reading will begin at 130 PM. Inurnment will be private at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery.
She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, Gary requests donations be made to cancercommons.org, in her name.
