James Allen Lewis, age 69, met his Savior on March 12th, 2025. James was born on October 20th, 1955. He was the son of F.R. Lewis and Virginia Ann Starnes, the brother of David Russell Lewis, deceased. James was a lifelong resident of Nacogdoches, attending all the public schools. At NHS, James was a superb student and a talented athlete. He played center for the Nacogdoches football team and also pitched for the baseball team. After high school, James received a baseball scholarship to pitch for Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA. He made life-long friends through both sports. He liked to tell how he played football against Earl Campbell. After returning home to Nacogdoches, James married Anne Tucker Lewis in 1977. On December 16, 2024, they celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. They were blessed to have so many years together and were very proud to be the parents of Amy Elizabeth Swan and James Allen Lewis II. James began his career with his father in road construction. He worked for several other contractors, and then James and his son started their own subcontracting business. After 8 years, James and Allen moved to Midland, TX to work for several oil and gas companies, where Allen still remains. James returned to Nacogdoches and retired after having male breast cancer and receiving successful treatment. He had nine years of retirement to enjoy his life on the farm with Anne and the outdoors.
James was proud to become a grandfather to Juddson James Lewis – 14 and Preslee Belle Lewis – 10.
James, in the end, fought a brave battle against stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was under the care of Harbor Hospice and his family was grateful for the wonderful care he received from their Chaplain John Wayland, nurses Brittany and Tammy, and social worker Angel. He was blessed to have his wife and both children at his side when he left for Heaven.
James is survived by his wife, Anne Lewis, son, Allen and daughter-in-law, Jenna Lewis, daughter Amy and son-in-law Todd Swan, and his grandchildren, Judd, Preslee, and Todd’s two children Sarah and Jason.
