A funeral service will be conducted on February 15, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel at 2:00 pm with Bro. Edgar Stanaland officiating. Both the United States Navy and the Patriot Guard Riders will be present to honor Mr. Cox. Burial will follow at the Alazan Cemetery in Nacogdoches.
Family and friends are invited to viewing on Friday, February 14 from the hours of 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Family will be present to receive guests from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
James loved to travel. His journey started in Texas. During his adolescent years he lived in Salzburg Austria. In early adulthood he relocated to San Antonio where he graduated high school. The best day of his life was when he met Frankie Jo and her children and then took her to be his wife for 41 years.
His fondest memories occurred when he was a Cub Scout Master and boy Scout Master for 10 years. He enjoyed mentoring young men. He was also a 4-H leader for 6 years. He loved traveling the country in his over the road rig. He would hall all sorts of things whatever was needed. He got to see a lot of the country.
Mr. Cox is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Drucilla Nixon. James is survived by his soul mate, Jo Cox; sons, Jon Thomas Cox and wife Carolyn, Joseph Jeremiah Cox and wife Elisha; adopted daughter, Barbara Hassell and husband, Rory; grandchildren, Katelyn Elizabeth Hassell, Krisanne LaBarba, Carlo LaBarba, Wil McEwen, Daniel McEwen, DeAndre Woods, Julianna Williams; brothers, Stephen Danforth Cox and wife, Edna, Phillip Cheesman and wife, Marsha, John Allen Chessman and wife, Connie; sister, Ruth Elizabeth Miller and husband, Melvin; numerous nieces, nephews, and many great friends

Active pallbearers will include Clint Martin, Jeff Bunch, Gary McLinturff, Gary McLinturff, Jr., Forrest Byas, and Justin Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Sowell, Frank Rudisill, Gary Pete Rudisill, and Wayne Burran.
