Georgia Ray Butler Johnson

Georgia Ray Chumley Butler Johnson, born August 2, 1929, passed away on the morning of June 4, 2020 at the age of 90. She was born in Nacogdoches and spent most of her life in Douglass. Georgia loved family and any opportunity that called for good food, good conversation, and an exciting game of 42. She had a “green thumb” and could make anything grow. After her move to the Arbor Assisted Living Facility, Georgia had fun when she was named an ambassador for the facility and a model used in their advertising.

Georgia is survived by her son, Michael Butler and his wife Kamilla of Douglass; daughter, Kay Johnson Asher of Nacogdoches; son, Dennis Johnson and wife Heidi of Nacogdoches; daughters, Cindy Johnson Martin of Nacogdoches and Laura Johnson Collins of Tyler; son-in-law, Harold Rogers; daughter-in-law, Debby Gilliam Butler; grandsons, Zackary Rogers and wife, Jessica of Cypress, and Cody Rogers and wife Morgan of Nacogdoches; Ronald Balsdon and wife, Megan of Austin; Tony Jones and wife, Amy of Douglass; Matt Jones and wife, Summer of New Braunfels; and granddaughters Meagan Bownds and husband, Emmanuel of Beasley; Stacy Apariclo and husband Quita of Douglass; Michelle Leal of Georgetown; and 9 additional grandchildren. Great-grandchildren include, Cole Rogers, Aeson Rogers, and Gavin Rogers of Cypress; Audrey Balsdon, Blythe Balsdon and Carter Balsdon of Austin; Catherine Bownds and Daphne Bownds of Beasley; Montana Jones, Aclee Kilma, Jackson McNutt, Cetch Carwright of Douglass; Ryan Jones of Chandler, AZ; Paisley Jones, Gunner Jones, of New Braunfels; Trent Schorer and Gabby Apariclo, St. Augustine, FL; Brice Leal and Kinley Leal, of Georgetown; and 15 additional great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Lou Chumley Kelly Stout of Cleveland, TX; and sister-in-law Donnie Ann Bobo Chumley Jenkins of Lufkin; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, George Butler; daughter, Connie Rogers; grandson, Gregory Butler; husbands, George Luther Butler and Vernon Ray Johnson; parents, Lanton Roosevelt “Tuff” and Dagmar Warren Chumley; brothers, Billy Chumley, Henry Paton “Jack” Chumley, Rufus Marvin Chumley and Arvel Melvin Chumley; sister, Fay Imogene Chumley Tindall; and great-grandson, Logan Charles Jones.

Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2020, from 5:00-7:00pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by Georgia’s nephew, Pastor Don Chumley of Spring Hill Baptist Church, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 2:00 pm followed by a committal service at Alazan Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Zackary Rogers, Cody Rogers, Ronald Balsdon, Tony Jones, Matt Jones, and Trent Schorer.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
