Born January 9, 1917, in Garrison, he grew up in Appleby. Mr. Barton was a longtime resident of Pasadena before returning to the Nacogdoches area. He retired as a crane operator in the chemical industry. Following retirement he also worked for nine years for Branch-Patton.
Clarence faithfully served his country during World War II. He enjoyed service with the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945.
He enjoyed playing 42 with friends, as well as fishing—both fresh water and salt water. His “second family” is everyone at Calvary Baptist Church where he faithfully served and loved singing with the Joyful Sound Choir.
His wife, Marie Pace Barton, preceded him in death on November 25, 2002. They had met in October 1945 and were married December 20, 1945, enjoying 56 years together before her death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, M.J. and Ollie Brown Barton; parents-in-law, Chester and Claudia Pace; and his siblings.
His survivors include sisters-in-law, Billie Wingate and husband Dick of Nacogdoches and Fairy Pace of Mount Enterprise; a special friend, Lydia Dillon of Nacogdoches; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 3732 Northeast Stallings Dr. in Nacogdoches, with Pastor Paul Sevar officiating. Interment will follow at Swift Cemetery, located on Hwy. 7 East.
Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Cason Monk-Metcalf, located at 5400 North St. in Nacogdoches.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
