Clare passed from this life on Friday, February 14, 2020 in Nacogdoches, Texas surrounded by her family. She was born on January 22, 1947 in Beaumont, Texas to Reginald
Monroe Newton and Carmen Marie Gaudet Newton.
As a child, she enjoyed spending time with her parents and her brother, Dan and often shared memories of family vacations to New York City and Washington D.C. She was involved in the Beaumont High School Choir, and she was a Princess in the Neches River Festival in Beaumont, Texas. Later, she was a student at Stephen F. Austin State University, where she majored in Home Economics. She met Jack E. Norman, Jr., the love of her life, in college and became engaged to him on the steps of Gibbs Hall on the S.F.A. campus in 1968. Jack and Clare were married on May 31, 1969, and recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The couple made their home in Nacogdoches, TX, where they raised three children, whom she affectionately called the “Three T’s”: Trae, Tim, and Tina. Her greatest joy and the highlight of her life came from raising her children and cheering them on in every endeavor in life. She provided a loving home for her children that was always open to their friends. Clare enjoyed working as a dental assistant, an aerobics instructor, and she was a longtime employee of the Stephen F. Austin State University Financial Aid Office. She enjoyed acting at the community Lamplite Theatre, her most notable role being in “Oklahoma.” Clare was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for more than 50 years and served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Confirmation Sponsor, and a CCD Leader. Clare was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a tremendous caretaker for her own mother for many years. Later in life, she found immense joy in each of her grandchildren.
