Christine Finney Lucas of Houston passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in Houston at the age of 97 years, 11 months, and 21 days. She was born February 8, 1921, in Kaufman, Texas to parents Charles T. and Ida Mae (Queen) Finney.
Christine earned her Master's Degree in Education from The University of Houston. She also attended Texas Women's University, Southern Methodist University, and Stephen F. Austin State University. She spent her career as a teacher/counselor for Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston. She was proud to be a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and Texas State Teachers Association. She was also a member of a ukulele band called Happy Time Strummers. Her interests included politics, sports, world news, and her family.
Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by her parents; and sons, Kenneth Ray (Ike) Lucas and Col. Luke L. Lucas.
She is survived by her son, Charles Michael Lucas and wife Pat; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2019, at The Farrington at Tanglewood Assisted Living Facility, 505 Bering Drive, Houston, Texas 77057.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Winning Walk at www.winningwalk.org.
