She was born in Malakoff, Texas, on December 3, 1929, in the first year of The Great Depression. Her father, Horace Cate Owens, was a coal miner, and her mother, Gertrude Martin Owens, was a housewife. Those early years shaped the strong, resilient woman she would become.
After World War II, her family moved to Dallas, Texas, and she graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. She later received her nursing certificate and began a life-long career in the nursing profession. She had a servant's heart, and so nursing was much more than a job for her. She made many dear friends during those years.
Mother married in 1947 and had four children: Sondra, Nicki (who died in infancy), Sharon, and Shelly. She was a strong mother who taught her daughters to embrace life and to live a life of joy, faith, and purpose.
Mother's North Star was her faith in God. It guided her in every decision, and when Mother said she would pray for you, those were not empty words. Her family and friends looked to her for guidance and strength, and her words of guidance were always rooted in her intimate knowledge of the word of God.
In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her brother and sisters: Edna Patrick, Thurman Owens, Alta Newson, and Barbara Kracja.
In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her grandchildren: Stefanie Stasny, Mark Meyer, Matt Hill, Kate Hill, Ryan Ford, and Taylor Ford. She had a special relationship with her grandchildren, and for them she has left joyful and wonderful memories.
She is also survived by her wonderful great-grandchildren: Nathan Jones, Daniel Jones, Andrew Jones, Liberty Jones, Elizabeth Meyer, William Meyer, Victoria Kai Hill, and Eisen Ford. She also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to a reception from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Grove Hill Funeral Home, located at 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75228. A graveside service follow at 1:00 p.m. at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
