Barbara Allen Davis, age 88 of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022. She was born and raised in Chireno,Texas on October 8th, 1933 and preceded in death by her parents, Allen Edgar Greer and Mary Aileen Mast.
She was married to her former spouse Col. Robert Glenn Davis, USMC (Ret.) for 21 years. They settled in Dallas to raise their three children, Michael Davis, Martha Davis Mock and Beverly Curtis. Barbara was a loving and devoted mother, loved people and taught her children to love everyone.
She earned her Bachelor’s in English Education from Stephen F. Austin College and later her Masters in Reading Education from Texas Woman’s University. While her children were young she was a substitute teacher for many years with DISD and became a full-time educator for the district in the 1970s. She had a passion for early childhood education and taught in various elementary schools in Oak Cliff, retiring from Nancy J. Cochran Elementary in 1994. Her love and devotion to the education of children earned her PTA Teacher of the Year in 1993. She firmly believed that every student should learn to read to ensure their future.
She was a member of the Altrusa Club of Oak Cliff, Druid Hills Book Club, and a long-time member of First Baptist Oak Cliff and later The Oaks Baptist Church. Barbara was a true servant of God and very active in her church. She had many cherished friends. If you were a friend of Barbara’s, you were a friend for life.
Survivors include three children Michael (Tanya), Martha, and Beverly (Steve), six grandchildren Colin (Ashley), Richard, Lauren (Jeremy), Elyse, Evan and Rita, and three great grandchildren, Owen, Hank and Bentley.
A graveside service will be held at the Chireno Lower Cemetery on March 5th, 2022 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Reading is Fundamental (rif.org) in her memory.
