Dale trained with the 82nd Airborne and was a decorated Army veteran of the Korean War. After 30 years on the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department, he retired in 1984. He enjoyed retirement – spending time with family, building, fixing things, or helping others. He always whistled while he worked. Dale enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golf, and was an avid Tigers fan. He and Glorian spent 22 fun years wintering in Florida until health issues kept them closer to home. Glorian, his dear wife of 50 years, was his caregiver and best friend. She predeceased him on Sept. 4, 2017.
Dale was also predeceased by his brothers, Paul, Harry, Bud, and John, sister, June Courtland, step-children, Darlene Kubicek, Diana Tiggelman, Daniel Aker, and great-granddaughter, Sydney Timmer.
Surviving are his children, Sue (Mike) Kotecki, Bruce (Rachel) Norton, Julie (Rob) Lewis, Kelly (Gina) Norton, Dennise Hines (Bruce Yonker), and Susan (David) Hodson, 24 grandchildren, many loved great-grand and great-great grand children, nieces, nephews and friends, including his close friend and nephew, Jeff Phillips.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at American House-Timberbrook in Spring Lake for their loving care during dad’s time with them.
A celebration of Dale’s life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel in Muskegon. The family will greet visitors one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Great Lakes Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Stroke Association.
