John C. Smith, age 83 passed away on December 15, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Hazel. Surviving are two daughters, Gay (Terry) Vanderstelt and Linda Hastings; four grandchildren, Shelly (Doug) Schmidt, Bryan Vanderstelt, Cari (Mark) Goughler and Jamie (Jason) McMillan; 11 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by a son in law Don Hastings, and he was the last sibling in his family of 12. John was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II and was retired from Teledyne. According to his wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army.
