Born in Landstuhl, Germany to Leora K. (Yost) and Bernard E. Stone on January 28, 1967. She was a class of 1985 graduate of grand Haven high school where she had many friends and starred on the basketball team. She was a talented enough player that she earned an athletic scholarship to Ferris State University but unfortunately a knee injury ended her playing career.
That of course didn’t hold Donna back from living her life to the fullest. Her love of the game not only made her a fierce competitor, but also surely contributed to her being fun loving and a fierce protector of her most important “team”, her family. Nowhere was that more evident than her intense love and strong connection with her daughter Stephanie as well as her very special bond with her granddaughter Emma.
She especially enjoyed spending time outside, going to the beach, and photographing the sunset. Whether it was just a peaceful sunset cruise or more of an adventure, she also loved traveling with her beloved family or her many friends. If you were someone that won Donna’s affection, you had a friend for life. And not just any friend, the kind you know has your back no matter what.
Donna’s loyal affection also extended to a love of animals and just people in general. Over the years she was a staple at many oval restaurants, notably the American Legion where her respect for veterans made her an unforgettable favorite. Most recently she held it down at Fatty Lumpkins Sandwich Shack where customers remember her as the official service guru that made everyone from all ages and walks of life comfortable and taken care of.
So many of these customers, tons of special friends, decades of co-workers, and of course her wonderful family will miss her dearly. We thank you all for your love and support during this difficult time of unexpected loss. May her light shine brightly on all of us for eternity.
Donna is survived by her mother, Leora (Frank) Stone; Daughter, Stephanie (Ryan) McCormick; Granddaughter, Emma McCormick; Sister, Darcy Burnett; Nephews, Michael (Jessi) Clark and Dylan Sweet.
She is proceeded in death by her father Bernard Stone.
Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
