December 23, 1938 – March 26, 2025
Darlene Looyengoed was born on December 23, 1938, in Cadillac, Michigan to Samuel and Thelma (Carpenter) Bogue. At age 86, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Fountain View Assisted Living in Lowell, Michigan. On June 20, 1957, she united in marriage with Robert Duane Looyengoed, and shared over 50 years as man and wife.
During her life, Darlene enjoyed cooking meals for her family, making sure everyone had enough to eat. She spent countless hours pulling weeds in the yard to give it that perfect groomed look. Camping had a special place in her heart, and she was often in the U.P. looking for that special agate on the shores of Lake Superior. While being a snowbird in Florida, she took up oil painting and created many works of art. Her voice was often a part of the church choir in cantatas or Sunday worship.
She leaves the legacy of her children Bob (Kay) Looyengoed Jr, Scott Looyengoed and Julie Way; her grandchildren Elyse (Daniel) West, Robert Dean Looyengoed, Rachel Way, Daniel Way and Bobbi Way; her great-grandchildren Diana West, Madelyn West, Colin West, Aura Way, Geddy Ritter, Brandon Torrey and Mariana Martinez; her sisters, Deanna Bogue, Jean (Clarence) Peterson, Debby (Tim) Paulson, Dawn (Mike) Slater; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Sam Bogue Jr, and beloved granddaughter Adrienne Way.
A special thank you to all her caregivers at Fountain View for the wonderful way they cared for our mom!
A memorial service to honor Darlene's life is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2025. The service will be held at Ever Rest Funeral Home, located at 1783 E Keating Ave, Muskegon, Michigan, beginning at 2:00 PM. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation period from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
